Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify design costs and prepare quotation and contract documentation for client agreement. It does not include costings related to the realisation of the design.This unit applies to designers.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Determine design costs
  • Assess design outcomes from review of design brief
  • Explore requirements with client using open questioning and discussion
  • Identify factors and complexities that affect the scope of design services
  • Identify and obtain information needed from others involved in the project
  • Accurately calculate design costs based on current rates and outcomes of brief review and customer discussions

  • Itemise and accurately detail inclusions on documentation
  • Identify and include information to support quotation
  • Present quote to the client and discuss to confirm agreement on inclusions
  • Modify and finalise quote based on client response
  • Obtain and document client agreement to the quote
       
Element: Prepare and present contract documentation
  • Select contract format based on the scope of the design project, business protocols and legal requirements
  • Identify and action the need for specialist legal expertise based on the project nature and scope
  • Note inclusions, costs and parameters of design services in the contract documents
  • Develop and accurately document terms and conditions

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
